THE ARTS

The historic neighborhoods and Benicia's water views have attracted artists with international reputations, such as Jack London, who visited Benicia on many occasions. Well-known local artist, the late Robert Arneson, built both his home and studio on First Street near the waterfront, where he played as a child. The site is distinguished by the famous Arneson bricks embedded in the sidewalk. Benicia's eclectic art community is yet another of Benicia's assets.  Tourists and locals alike come to experience the arts including Benicia's internationally acclaimed glass studios and art galleries.

Arts Benicia is a community-based non-profit organization that provides quality exhibitions in its gallery and at other venues in Benicia, engaging public programs, stimulating workshops for adults, and inspiring family and youth art programs.  For 30 years Arts Benicia has been a vital part of the local and regional art community, furthering and supporting artistic development, and enriching the larger community.  Please refer to the Community Calendar of Events for Open Studio dates as well as special exhibits.

Benicia Old Town Theatre Group  offers high-quality theatrical entertainment opportunities and training in all aspects of theatrical arts, allowing aspiring performers and behind-the-scenes volunteers to learn practice and perfect their craft.  Community productions held twice a year.  Please refer to the Community Calendar of Events for specific performance dates.

The Benicia Second Saturdays Art Walk, a self-guided tour, is held the 2nd Saturday of each month, 3:00-7:00 p.m., from April through October in Benicia's historic downtown First Street area.

Participating venues feature local artwork - fine art, visual, musical, performance, literary, culinary, fashion, and decorative art.  Brochures listing these venues on a color coded map are available at the Benicia Chamber of Commerce, Benicia Public Library, Benicia Main Street, Benicia State Capitol, and online at VisitBenicia.ORG/arts/visual-arts, and display the blue Benicia Art Walk banners on their businesses.
